Georgia M. Mullen

Georgia M. (Christner) Mullen, age 95 of Greenville, passed away surrounded by her children at 9:27 a.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Ruth’s House Memory Care Center, Edwardsville, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Mark Gause officiating. Interment will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Bond County Hospice or Got Your 6 Support Dogs (therapy dogs that visited Georgia and the residents of Ruth’s House).

Georgia M. (Christner) Mullen, daughter of George and Grace (Reed) Christner, was born July 17, 1922 at the family home on Oak Street in Greenville. She grew up in Greenville attending the schools through her junior year in high school. She then moved to Michigan and graduated from Dearborn High School with the class of 1941.

Georgia was united in marriage to Leon A. Mullen on November 3, 1942 in Enterprise, Alabama. They lovingly raised four children and enjoyed almost 68 years of marriage before his death on Sept.11, 2010. In addition, they raised Georgia’s nephew, Joel Connolly.

During the war, Georgia worked at Ford Motor Plant assembling parts for the B-24 Bomber. Georgia and her mother-in-law owned the Donnellson Cafe as well as the Uptown Laundry Mat. She also worked at Buckeye Glove Factory in Greenville. She retired from De Moulin Brothers after over 20 years as a floor supervisor. Georgia then worked at Bass-Mollett Publishers for 22 1/2 years, retiring at the age of 85.

Georgia had a strong Christian faith putting her full trust in the Lord and enjoyed fellowship with fellow believers. She faithfully attended the Alhambra First Baptist Church. Georgia enjoyed traveling with her family, camping, and playing marbles, carrom, pinochle, and other card games. She was an avid bowler for many years. She was a member of the Blessed Piece Makers Quilting Club. Georgia loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Ron Mullen of Prairietown, Illinois, Sandy Mullen of Greenville, Illinois, Keith (Gladys) Mullen of Greenville, Illinois, Melis (Bill) Gass of New Douglas, Illinois. Loving grandma of Kyle (Gail Jones) Mullen, Erik (Beatriz) Mullen, Megan (Ben) Greer, Brittany (Ben) Jones, Christina (Jake) Gass-Olson, Joshua Gass, Jason, Lessy, and Anyi Guardado and Great Gma of Mattox and Keagan Greer, Ellie Gass, Erika Mullen, and Paula Murillo.

She is also survived by a special cousin and life-long friend Jay Peterson.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, were her parents, brothers Gifford Christner and Lyle Mayfield, sister Genevieve Connolly, and step dad Marvin Sandifer.
