Marianne (Mimi) P. Vonnahme

Mrs. Vonnahme was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on April 20, 1926, a daughter of G. Edwin Popkess and Mona (Timlin) Popkess. She married Conrad B. Vonnahme, Jr. on June 19, 1948, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in East St. Louis.

She returned to the classroom while completing her degree in Education and taught elementary grades for over 25 years in Breese and Carlyle, retiring from All Saints School in 1990.

Mimi’s passions were her family, her church, golf and bridge. Holiday and other family gatherings with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids around a table of family traditional menus were a highlight. She was active in St. Mary Church throughout her life in Carlyle. Into her early 80s she would be out on the golf links with girlfriends. But her great passion was bridge. Throughout her life she enjoyed playing bridge with family and friends and in her later years she was active in two bridge groups playing weekly with lifelong friends in Carlyle. Her “Bridge friends” were always special to Mimi.
