Trevor Richards from Aviston had the thrill of pitching in his first major league baseball game Monday night.
Unfortunately he was on the losing end.
Richards, who played his high school baseball at Mater Dei High School, was the starting pitcher for Miami against the Boston Red Sox.
He tossed four and one-third innings, allowing 8 hits and five earned runs. The right-hander struck out 5.
Boston won the game 7 to 3.
The 24-year-old Richards played for Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, and pitched independent minor league baseball for the Gateway Grizzlies, before being signed by the Miami Marlins.
He was the minor league pitcher of the year for the Miami organization in 2017.
