Alvin H. Frey, age 95 of Pierron, IL, died Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, MO.

He was born on Tuesday, April 10, 1923, in Pierron, IL, the son of Herman F. and Margaret E. (nee Baumgartner) Frey.

On January 6, 1951, he married Shirley L. Frey, nee Espenschied. She passed away on July 9, 1987.

On March 19, 1988, he married Mable I. Frey, nee Kelly. She passed away on Friday, September 3, 1999.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Pierron, IL. He was also a member of Madison County Farm Bureau; Madison County Farm Committee; Bond County Soil and Water Conservation District (Board); Bond County ASCS Committee; Pierron Coop (Director and President); and Pierron Improvement Club (PIC Park).

Alvin was born south of Pierron, IL, on the family farm in Madison County. He attended Kyle Country School and Immaculate Conception Grade School. He worked at Olin Corporation, East Alton, Illinois from 1947-1949. He worked and helped with the family farm since age 13, after his father’s death. He farmed east of Pierron in 1951 as a Dairy Farmer until 1963. He also farmed livestock and grain and was still active on the farm at age 95. He helped raise his two nephews Anthony Frey and Leroy Hock. He helped establish zoning in Bond County. He was very friendly and outgoing and never met a stranger. He maintained a close relationship with Francis and Dorothy Weinheimer in Montana. He would call them on the phone and visit them on their ranch.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, May 14, 2018, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron, IL, with Father Scott A. Snider, pastor, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Pierron, IL, officiating.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pierron, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Shriners Hospital for Children.
