Over 300 students graduated Saturday in the first commencement exercise for the newly named Greenville University.
Several special awards were presented at graduation events.
Graduating seniors Laura Goodnight and Kellie Steele were honored. Goodnight received the first President’s Citation for Character and Service, and Steele was given the President’s Citation for Academic Excellence.
Dr. Jeffrey Wilson, professor of music and director of the university’s choir, was presented the W. Richard Stephens Outstanding Faculty Award.
It was announced that four G.U. staff members had been given emeritus status. They were Norm Hall, Kent Krober, Ella Peters and Georgann Kurtz-Shaw.
Dr. Roy Bahl, a 1961 Greenville graduate, was given an honorary doctorate of laws degree. He is the founding dean of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University.
