UPDATED: Comets Baseball To Play For Championship

THIS GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED AND WILL NOW BE MONDAY AT 4:30 P.M.

The Greenville Comets are playing for the championship of the Vandalia Class 2A Regional.

In the semifinals Wednesday afternoon, the Comets beat Mater Dei 7 to 0.

Greenville plays in the championship game at noon Saturday in Vandalia. The game will be broadcast on WGEL.

The Comets jumped in front early against Mater Dei. They put 6 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the second. Logan Doll led off with a solo home run and Christian Moss cracked a three-run double.

Trent Hlafka hit a home run in the fourth to end the scoring.

Drew Frey, Mason Johnson, and Blake and Logan Doll had two hits apiece for the winners.

The Comets featured outstanding pitching. Hlafka earned the mound victory, shutting out Mater Dei in the first six innings. Brock Nelson kept the Knights scoreless in the seventh in relief.

GHS is 15-17 and 1 for the season.
