David E. Thiems, age 49 of rural Old Ripley, passed away at 8:13 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville with Tyson Graber officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday evening at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. For those who desire memorials in David’s memory may be made to the Old Ripley 4 H Club, Bond County F.F.A., the Thursday Oncology Nurses, or to the Highland F.F.A.
David Edgar Thiems, the son of Shirley Jean Mettler Thiems and LaVern Herbert Thiems, was born on June 28, 1968 in Greenville. David was raised on the Thiems’ farm near Old Ripley and attended the New Douglas Elementary School, the Highland Junior High, and graduated from Highland High School in 1986. David farmed with his father, then later the three Thiems boys David, Danny, and Don, formed the “Triple D Farms” and farmed together until David’s death. David enjoyed his family, farming, hunting, fishing, and watching sports. David was a member of the Bond County Farm Bureau, and has served in the past as an Old RIpley Trustee.
David and Michelle L. Fitzgerald were united in marriage on August 1, 1992 at the Greenville First Christian Church by Darryl Bolen and have enjoyed over 24 years together. Michelle survives as do their two children; Shelby K. Thiems and Tyler D. Thiems. David is also survived by his three siblings: Danny (Sue) Thiems of rural Pocahontas, Denise (Hugh) Cassidy of Mahomet, and Don (Missy) Thiems of rural New Douglas.
David is preceded in death by his parents LaVern and Shirley Thiems.
