A fatal accident shut down eastbound Interstate 70 near Greenville for a few hours Friday afternoon.
Bond County Coroner Tony Brooks reports a semi tractor/trailer was stopped in traffic on the eastbound lane of I-70 near the 41 mile marker due to construction. A 2017 black Ford pickup truck, driven by 66 year old Michael L. Antoline, of Champaign, struck the rear of the box trailer, becoming wedged under the trailer.
State police told WGEL the accident occurred at 11:50 AM.
Coroner Brooks pronounced Antoline deceased at the scene at 12:20 PM.
Local authorities rerouted traffic for a few hours, as the eastbound lanes of the interstate were completely shut down between the 36 and 41 milepost exits.
The accident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and Bond County Coroner’s Office.
