KPD Pool Still To Open May 26

Meeting Monday night, the Kingsbury Park District Board learned plans remain for the swimming pool to open on Saturday, May 26, however there is still work to be completed.

Major renovations and additions have been underway at the pool for several months.

A new building has been constructed for concessions and life guards. Park District Director Jerry Sauerwein said he expects the building to be done by the end of the week.

Electrical work is to be done, pouring of concrete is also being wrapped up, new fence needs to be erected and the features for the new splash pad need to be installed.

Eventually, light poles, for exterior lighting at the pool, must be put up.

Cara Thiems returns this swimming season as a co-manager of the pool and she will also be assistant swim team coach.

Joanne Wagner is the head coach of the swim team and aquatics coordinator at the pool.

The park board re-organized with no changes in the officers. Scott Crothers remains board president, Tommy Simpson is vice-president and Barb Smith treasurer.

Sauerwein was reappointed board secretary.

The board still has a vacancy, as the four members have been unable to agree on a person to appoint.

Sauerwein reported the 21st annual fishing derby will be June 2 at Patriot’s Park. It is for boys and girls through age 15.

Registration is from 9 to 9:30 a.m. One parent needs to be in attendance for every five participants.

The event is free.

The KPD baseball and softball seasons begin on June 4.

Sauerwein advised registration for all other park district summer activities can be accomplished on the district’s website.
