Lady Panthers In National Softball Tournament

The Greenville University softball team is playing in the NCAA Division 3 national tournament for the second straight year.

The Lady Panthers earned their ticket to the national tourney by winning the SLIAC conference tournament last weekend at St. Anne, Missouri.

GU opened the conference tourney with shutout wins over Fontbonne and Westminister.

The local team faced Westminster again and claimed the championship with a 4 to 2 victory,

Pitcher Maegan Stone was named tournament most valuable player.

Kate Joliff Rosado, Megan Barrett and Caiti Opp were on the all-tourney team.

Coach Foster said Stone had an excellent tournament and he also spoke about three former Mulberry Grove High School players on his team, saying they each contributed a lot to the team. They’re all seniors and he said they will be missed.

The Lady Panthers enter the NCAA Regional with a 13-game winning streak. Their first game is at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. They go up against Hope, which is the number one seed. It is a double-elimination regional, so the Lady Panthers will also play Friday. The regional ends Saturday.
