Lauren Stengel Of Greenville KC Paul Simon Student Essay Award Winner

Kaskaskia College is proud to announce that Lauren Stengel of Greenville has been named the 2018 KC Paul Simon Student Essay Award Winner.

Lauren Stengel, is currently a freshman at Kaskaskia College working on an Associate in Arts Degree. She plans to transfer to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale to get a Bachelor’s Degree in English and hopes to continue on to get a Master’s Degree and become a community college professor. She is married to Robert Stengel, who is also a freshman at KC, and is the daughter of Jerry Hopper (deceased) and Amanda Hinkle.

Lauren’s essay, “How My Community College has Changed My Life” expresses how an education has become so much more to her now that she’s been at KC. “I love and enjoy what I’m learning, and I give all the credit to the ability of the professors. The professors at Kaskaskia College are second to none.

I have never had a teacher more intelligent and encouraging than those I have had the pleasure of learning from at KC. It’s because of their true love of knowledge that I am going to become the person that I’ve always wanted to be, and for that, I am so thankful”.

She says, “I honestly do not believe that there is a word that can describe how thankful I am for Kaskaskia College and their staff. It’s because of their love for knowledge that they have provided me with a truly unforgettable experience that has ignited something inside of me that will continue to push me forward”.
