Over 100 people attended the Greenville Memorial Day Program Monday morning at Montrose Cemetery.
Chris Bauer, who has been Bond County State’s Attorney since 2000, was the featured speaker.
Early in his speech he asked those who had a friend or family member who died in combat to raise their hands plus those who were in the military or have had a friend or family member in the military to raise their hands.
Bauer noted most of the people had raised their hands. Click below to hear more of his comments:
Boy Scout Troop 1057 Leader Dean Thole and scouts Blake Harnetiaux, Dustin Rehkemper, Wyatt Emken, and David Donnan led the Pledge of Allegiance and the boys participated in the decorating of military signs.
Local veterans participated throughout the program. Organizations represented were the Bond County VFW Post, Greenville American Legion, Lincolnland Leathernecks Marine Corps League, and AMVETS.
The Greenville Municipal Band performed before the program and during it.
An hour before the service, veterans gathered at the Bond County Veterans Memorial, next to the courthouse, to change the flags.
