Pocahontas Gym Trash To Treasure

Up until last year, Pocahontas students were playing on the same gym floor as when it was built in 1935. When they were granted approval to replace the floor, parents came up with the idea of reusing the old gym floor and turning the pieces into keepsakes.

The staff and custodial crew worked hard to remove and preserve the many sections of gym flooring. Then, various parents worked together to create picture frames and holiday decorations for past students and proud community members to purchase.

They also auctioned off the large pieces of floor that had the original school logos.

By turning the trash into treasure, they earned $6,365 which was split between the Pocahontas PTO and Sport Booster organizations which benefits the Pocahontas Students.
