Ronald W. “Bubba” Messerli


Ronald W. “Bubba” Messerli, age 81 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Highland Health Care Center in Highland, IL.

He was born on Wednesday, February 03, 1937, in Highland, IL, the son of Oliver and Olivia (nee Mollet) Messerli.

On Saturday, May 11, 1968, he married Nancy A. Messerli (nee Jovanovic) at Caseyville, IL, by Rev. Arby Hosto.

He was a member of Grantfork United Church of Christ, Grantfork, IL; former member of Highland Jaycees.

Ronald was born in Highland, IL; lived in Steelville, IL. He graduated from Steelville High School in 1955. He served with the U.S. Army with duty in France and Germany, from June 1, 1960 to May 31, 1962. After his military service, he lived in St. Louis and moved to Highland in 1969. He was very active in the Highland community. He was a Youth Sponsor at church for a number of years and Sports Booster at Highland High School. He played softball in the over 40 league until his mid 50’s; played golf ; and was an avid bowler at High Top, Poplar Junction and Grantfork Bowl. Ron retired from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, St. Louis, MO. He was very sport orientate and enjoying watching the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, St. Louis Blues, St. Louis Rams and NASCAR. He enjoyed growing plants and flowers in his garden. He liked to play cards, Sudoku and dice games with his family. He loved his grandchildren and children and enjoyed watching them at their activities.

Grandchild – Lane G. Messerli, Greenville, IL
Grandchild – Sydney I. Messerli, Springfield, MO
Grandchild – Paige O. Messerli, Cape Girardeau, MO
Grandchild – Reese C. Messerli, Greenville, IL
Grandchild – Jordyn E. Niewold, Clyde, NC.

He was preceded in death by:
Father – Oliver C. “Ollie” Messerli – Died 12/12/1983
Mother – Olivia Edna Messerli, nee Mollet – Died 3/06/2006.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Friday, May 18, 2018, at Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, IL.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 18, 2018, at Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, IL, with Rev. Tim A. Darmour-Paul, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at Grantfork United Church of Christ Cemetery in Grantfork, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to H.I.S. K.I.D.S. or Grantfork United Church of Christ.
