Usually, firemen have to travel to a fire. Tuesday afternoon, the fire came to them.
Greenville District firemen were having a training class at the firehouse when an alarm was received at 2:07 p.m. The fire was a truck, stopped just east of the firehouse along Harris Avenue.
Fire Chief Dennis Wise said a county resident got behind the truck near Hillsboro and tried to get the driver to stop because smoke was coming from a tire.
He finally got the driver stopped near the firehouse.
Chief Wise reported the tire eventually blew out and the fire was extinguished. Damage, estimated at $2,000, was to the tire and brake.
Firemen were on the scene almost an hour.
The truck is based in Valparaiso, Indiana.
