MO Man Allegedly Left Scene Of Fatal Accident

A Missouri truck driver has been charged in Fayette County with leaving the scene of an accident that left another semi driver dead on I-70.

60 year old Ray L. Ryan, of Buffalo, MO, faces charges of allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal accident in Fayette County. Ryan was in Fayette County Court Tuesday and his bail was reduced to $500,000 from $1 million.

Illinois State Police reported on June 13, that a semi driven by 46 year old Peter F. Peters, of Elmira, Ontario, Canada, was parked along the right shoulder near the 55 mile marker of Interstate 70 in Fayette County. State Police say Peters was standing outside his vehicle on the driver’s side near the middle of the trailer when a truck tractor and white box semi-trailer sideswiped Peter’s vehicle. Peters was pinched between both units and was fatally injured. State Police say, the then-unknown truck driver continued eastbound on Interstate 70 leaving the crash.

The suspect truck and its driver, Ray L. Ryan, were identified the next day, over 400 miles away in Ohio.
