St. Louis Cardinals legend Red Schoendienst passed away Wednesday, June 6 at the age of 95.
Schoendienst was born in Germantown and spent time at the Civilian Conservation Corps camp on the ground now occupied by HSHS Holy Family Hospital.
Congressman John Shimkus recently addressed the House of Representatives to honor the life of Red Schoendienst.

On November 13, 2017, at the age of 94, Schoendienst became the oldest living member of the Hall of Fame when Bobby Doerr died at 99, and the oldest living manager of a World Series-winning, pennant-winning or post-season team.
