Lady Comets Tennis Recap

The Lady Comets participated in the St. Anthony Invitational in Effingham on Saturday. Coach Vaughn Robart provided us this recap of the action:

The double elimination tournament included 11 high schools (some with both Varsity and Junior Varsity teams) with 1st and second doubles flights as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd singles flights. Greenville’s 1st doubles team of Heidi Summers & Olivia Wylde split sets with St. Anthony JV then won in a super tiebreaker12-10. They then fell short against Robinson and also versus Decatur Lutheran. Molly Harnetiaux/Morgan Wilderman lost to Herrin and then Robinson. At 1st singles Sarah Brannon lost to Renata Lee from Bloomington Catholic Central and played well in her next match before falling to Diana Mossman from Teutopolis. Jackie Forys lost 6-4, 6-2 to Herrin and 8-1 to Teutopolis. Kyra Wells won her 1st match at #3 singles, besting Mt. Zion 6-3, 6-4. She lost to T-town but then rebounded in her 3rd match to beat Decatur Lutheran 9-7 before losing in the 5th place match to another Teutopolis foe. Teutopolis took1st place overall while Bloomington Catholic Central was 2nd and St. Anthony was 3rd. GHS finished 12th out of the 14 teams.
