In high school boys’ soccer last Thursday, the Greenville Comets won at Gillespie 2 to 1.
Kyle Sunderland scored both goals, the game winner with just 30 seconds left to play.
Assists were by Tyler Rieke and Sam Barber. The winning goal keeper was Theo Hardin.
The win was the Comets 6th of the season and improved their South Central Conference record to 4 and 2.
The varsity team plays at home Tuesday and Thursday against Vandalia and Lincolnwood. The Comets’ senior night is Monday against Teutopolis.
Greenville has been named by the IHSA as a Class 1A regional host school. The two semifinal games will be played October 9 at Tom Doll Field with Greenville against Wood River at 6 p.m.
The regional championship game will be Friday October 12.
A junior varsity soccer jamboree was played Saturday in Greenville. The Comets fell to Highland and lost to Carlinville, 1 to 0 on a penalty kick.
The Highland JV team won the championship.
