The Mulberry Grove Aces opened their basketball season with a 60 to 49 win over Patoka in their own turkey tournament Tuesday night.
After leading by 10 in the first quarter, the Aces trailed by three at halftime.
Despite finding themselves in foul trouble throughout the game, the Aces controlled most of the second half, finally taking the lead for good at 25-24. Mulberry Grove held Patoka to 5 points in the third quarter and led by 11 entering the fourth quarter.
Both teams scored 22 points in the final frame. The Aces were able to hit 12 free throws in the quarter to maintain a comfortable lead.
Their biggest margin was 15 points.
The Aces finished 15 of 22 in free throws.
Courtlyn Latham led the offense with 26 points. Donta Latham and Braeden Links totaled 9 apiece.
The Aces play Mt. Olive in the tournament at 8:15 Wednesday.
The tournament continues Friday and Saturday, with Mulberry Grove facing South Central at 8:15 p.m. Friday. The game will be broadcast on WGEL and streamed at WGEL for com.
