Lady Comets Set School Record

The varsity Greenville Lady Comets established a new school record Saturday afternoon with a victory at Staunton.

The win improved the team’s overall record to 25-1, the best regular season mark in GHS girls’ history, with two regular season games remaining.

The 1986-87 Lady Comets went 24-1 in the regular season and were 29-2 overall.

At Staunton Saturday, GHS fell behind 6-0 then posted 11 straight points. The team led by 3 after one quarter, expanded the margin to 12 at halftime, and led by 14 after three quarters. The final score was 50-33.

Head Coach Kolin Dothager said his team accomplished another season goal.

Leading the Lady Comets in scoring were Rylee Pickett with 14 points, Nancy Fritzsche with 13 and Megan Hallemann with 11.

The GHS girls are now 7-1 in the South Central Conference. Their next game is Monday at Christ Our Rock Lutheran near Centralia.

The final regular season game is at home Thursday against conference foe, Carlinville. It is also senior night.

Both games will be broadcast on WGEL and streamed at wgel.com.
