Lady Comets End Regular Season, Set School Record


The Greenville Lady Comets concluded their regular season Thursday night with their 27th victory.

They defeated Carlinville 53-37. It was only Carlinville’s 4th loss in 24 games.

The GHS girls trailed early in the game by one point, then took control, leading by 8 at halftime and 11 after three quarters. The lead expanded to 20 points during the fourth quarter.

Megan Halleman led the offense with 18 points. Nancy Fritzsche scored 17, 13 of them in the fourth quarter, and Ally Cantrill posted 10 points.

Cantrill also ended the night as the all-time Lady Comet leader in career steals. She picked up number 324 in the first quarter.

It was senior night, as Nancy Fritzsche, Madison Gerdes, Ally Cantrill and Katie Hutchinson played their final home game. Head Coach Kolin Dothager said he is proud of the seniors.

The Lady Comets ended the regular season with a 27-1 record, best in school history, and became only the third girls team to go undefeated at home, winning 9 straight this season.

They enter post-season play Wednesday in the Staunton Class 2A Regional. The Lady Comets, the top seed, play a semifinal game at 6 p.m. It will be broadcast on WGEL.
