The Greenville Lady Comets are regional champions for the first time since 2000.
At Staunton Thursday night, the Lady Comets defeated Alton Marquette 58-18.
The Greenville High School girls dominated the game, scoring the first 18 points. It was a 29-point lead by halftime and a 38-point Lady Comets’ advantage after three quarters.
Rylee Pickett single-handedly outscored Marquette with 19 points, 14 in the first quarter. She sank five three-point shots. Nancy Fritzsche scored 12 points, Natalie Iberg 11 and Megan Hallemann 10.

The Lady Comets tied the school record with their 29th win of the season. They have just one loss.
Their next game is Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro Sectional. The opponent will be Petersburg Porta. In the 6 p.m. game, Hillsboro faces Pleasant Plains.

In the three-point contest before Thursday’s game, Rylee Pickett sank 10 of 15 shots to advance to the sectional competition.
