The Greenville Comets’ baseball squad finished last week with three wins.
Friday at Gillespie, Greenville High won 4-1 to improve its conference record to 2-0.
The game was scoreless until the seventh inning when the Comets put four runs on the scoreboard. Drew Frey had two RBIs while Chad Stearns and Wil Harnetiaux also drove in runs.
Brock Nelson was the winning pitcher, striking out 9 Miners.
Saturday, the Comets won twice at Freeburg.
In the opening game, GHS stopped Southwestern 7-2. Freshman Mason Barnes got his first varsity pitching start, had a no-hitter through five innings and earned the win. Kyle Tipsword pitched the seventh.
In the second game, the Comets defeated Freeburg 8-3.
Frey totaled four hits on offense. Chad Stearns was the winning pitcher.
The varsity Comets entered this week with a 9-5 overall record.
Friday, the Greenville junior varsity squad lost to Mulberry Grove 10-6. Chase Bellegante posted two hits and two RBIs for the Comets while Steven Jack pitched well in a relief pitching role.
Saturday, the Comet freshmen rolled past Southwestern 15-5 in five innings. Haiden Graham pitched a complete game seven-hitter. He also had three hits on offense. Jack Schaufelberger drove in two runs and had two hits.
The GHS sophomores lost to Freeburg 11-1. Christian Bauer, Clayton Dannaman and Graham banged out two hits apiece.
