Blumer Named AIAA Committee Chair

Jackie Blumer, a 6th and 7th grade science teacher at Greenville Junior High School, is involved with the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Blumer recently became chair of the K-12 STEM Committee for the St. Louis Section of AIAA. STEM is science, technology, engineering and math.

She said the institute’s philosophy is to make STEM topics exciting, empowering, and fun. The region covers 30 counties in Missouri and 10 in Illinois. The group meets monthly. As committee chair, Blumer will develop action plans for outreach and events, volunteer at STEM events in the region, and speak to other groups.

She said local students can benefit from having a local connection to the section organization. She hopes it will bring excitement back to the community, allow for more STEM events in the area, and inspire more teachers to get involved.

Jackie Blumer has received two teacher grants herself and another teacher in Greenville has also submitted a grant request.
