Comets Baseball Season Ends Saturday

The Greenville Comets fell in the championship game of their own baseball regional Saturday.

Teutopolis claimed the title with an 11-1 decision in five innings.

The Comets took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Logan Doll was hit by a pitch and scored on Hunter Gray’s double.

The first three innings went by quickly as Comets starting’ pitcher Hunter Gray retired the first nine batters, then the 10th one to lead off the fourth. The Wooden Shoes then came alive on offense, scoring five runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to end the game.

Gray struck out six before he was relieved by Mason Barnes and Kyle Tipsword.

The only other Comets’ hit was by Mason Johnson.

The Comets’ season ends with a 21-9 record.

Teutopolis is now 23-8-1 and advances to its own Class 2A sectional this week.

Area Class 1A regional championship scores included Altamont over Effingham St. Anthony 6-5, Valmeyer over New Athens 4-1, South Central edged Dieterich 3-2, and Waterloo Gibault beat Okawville 16-1.
