Two Greenville councilmen were sworn in for new four-year terms at a special meeting Monday night.
City Clerk Sue Ann Nelson administered the oaths to Bill Carpenter and Lisa Stephens.
Carpenter was elected for the first time on April 2 after being appointed to the council in August of last year to fill a vacancy.

Stephens was a council member from 2002 to the summer of 2007 when she was hired by the city to be Greenville’s assistant city manager for economic development, a position she held into 2010. She recently was on the Greenville Plan Commission.
John Gillard, who served on the council since 2011, did not seek re-election. He was not at Wednesday’s meeting, so Councilman Mike Heath read a letter written by Gillard.
In the letter, Gillard said his time on the council was an honor and that Greenville has a bright future. He said he hopes the city and county continue to work together toward a common goal. He thanked the Greenville community for their support and said he would remain a champion and advocate for the city.
