Evelyn A. Pruitt

Evelyn A. Pruitt age 93 of Greenville, passed away at 6:41 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2019 at HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Grenville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Greenville First Christian Church with Tyson Graber officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. For those who desire memorials in Evelyn’s memory may be made to the First Christian Church, Bond County Hospice, or V.F.W. Post 1377 of Greenville at Donnell-Wiegand or at the Church.

Evelyn Arlene Royer, the daughter of Amuel Manly Royer and Hattie Frances Ellsworth Royer, was born on October 12, 1925 in LaGrange Township near Woburn, IL. Evelyn grew up near Greenville attending schools including Drake School, Smithboro School, Plant one room School, Reno High School her first two years, and graduated from Greenville High School in 1944. Evelyn worked for Tony Breitenbach at Brieties Café, for White-Rogers Electrical during World War II. After her marriage in 1946 she raised her family. She then served as book keeper for her husband in Pruitt Sand and Gravel and for their Pruitt’s Sporting Goods store north of Greenville.

Evelyn and Robert Esco Pruitt were united in marriage on February 10, 1946 by Rev. Peters at the Christian Church in Greenville and enjoyed over 47 years together before his death on May 15, 1993. Evelyn is survived by their five children: Robert Duane (Yvonne) Pruitt of Centralia, Dennis Eugene (Ruth Ann) Pruitt of rural Greenville, Edward Rick Pruitt of Donnellson, Patsy Ann English of White Springs, Florida, Christina Mae Pruitt of Greenville 14 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. Evelyn is one of 15 children, survived by siblings: Norman Royer of Decatur, Amuel (Sandy) Royer of Greenville, Donald Royer of Las Vegas, NV, Delores Burdick of Greenville, and half- sister Thelma Miller of Joliet.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents Amuel Royer and Hattie Royer Lewis, her grand- daughter Susan Renee Holt, brothers Dillard, Lester, Darrel, Earl, Eldon, Rev. Elmer Luther Royer, Harold, and sisters Opal Eskra and Ruby Creed.

Evelyn was a member of the Utlaut Hospital Axillary, the V.F.W. Post 1377 Axillary, the Calvary Temple Assemblies of God Church, and now attended the Greenville First Christian Church.
