Breese Central scored late to beat the Greenville Comets in varsity baseball Monday.
The Comets led 2-1 when the Cougars put five runs on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh to win.
Grant McCullough drove in the two GHS runs with a double. The loss gave the Comets an overall record of 19-8.
They host a Class 2A regional this week. Semifinal games are Teutopolis against Vandalia at 4:30 Wednesday, and Greenville against Hillsboro at 4:30 Thursday.
The championship game is 11 a.m. Saturday in Greenville.
In regional quarterfinal action Monday, Vandalia beat Litchfield 2-0. Southwestern downed Wood River 3-2 and Carlyle edged Roxana 1-0.
In junior varsity baseball Monday, Breese Central stopped the Comets 15-3.
Jaylon Betts pitched well in relief for the Comets.
Mason Barnes had a hit and two runs batted in. Also hitting safely were Christian Bauer, Jack Schaufelberger and Nathan Grull.
