On the evening of April, 24th, the Greenville Optimist Club held their annual Youth Appreciation Reception at St. Lawrence Posch Hall to honor Bond County Unit #2 High School class and organization student leaders. The students and parents were treated to desserts and punch.

Don Reed, Optimist member and retired Greenville teacher, gave a short inspirational presentation to honor the students for stepping forward to lead their respective class or organization. He ended with a charge to the students to continue to be active in community activities beyond their high school years. Mr. Reed commented that many community organizations, including the Optimist Club, are in need of younger members to help support aging memberships.

Following Mr. Reed’s comments, the students gave a short speech on their respective activity and how they support the community with their time and fundraising. The Greenville Optimist Club recognizes the leaders for their willingness to serve and help the community. Each leader was given a framed certificate to honor their respective position by Optimist Youth Appreciation Chairman, Pat York.

Attending the reception were Mia Emken, Freshman Class President, Kyle Sunderland, FCA Representative, and Josh Doty, Junior Class President. Other representatives unable to attend included Ariana Williams and Abby Brunk, Yearbook co-editors; David Bare, Band Drum Major; Sarah Klenke, National Honor Society President; Jacqueline Forys, Student Council President; Ethan Matthews, Scholar Bowl Varsity Captain; Cole Wall, FFA President; Emily Unterbrink, Senior Class President; and Kyra Wells, Sophomore Class President.
