Highland Native To Majors

Highland has another native in baseball’s major leagues.

Geoff Hartlieb was called up last Friday by the Pittsburgh Pirates after the team purchased his contract from Triple-A Indianapolis.

It didn’t take Hartlieb long to see action. Saturday in San Diego, Hartlieb relieved and pitched a scoreless inning, recording his first big league strikeout. The Pirates won 7-2.

He was back on the mound in relief Sunday, pitching two-thirds of an inning with one walk, no hits and no runs. Pittsburgh won 6-4.

The 6-6, 235-pound right-hander graduated from Highland High School in 2012. Hartlieb played college baseball at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, and was drafted by the Pirates in 2016 in the 29th round.

The other Highland representative in the major leagues is pitcher Jake Odorizzi. He is currently in his 8th season at the big league level and has a 6-2 record with the Minnesota Twins.
