Illinois State Police Warn Of Farmers On The Move

Illinois State Police urge motorists to be extra cautious on roadways during spring planting season as farmers are moving equipment from field to field. Farm equipment travels at speeds of 25 miles per hour or less and drivers should be prepared to reduce speed immediately when encountering slow moving vehicles. Avoid distractions and do not pass farm equipment unless it is legal and safe, even if the operator waves you around. Maintain a safe following distance and be patient. Be prepared to meet an oncoming oversized agricultural vehicle.

Farmers should avoid moving farm machinery at sunrise and sunset, when visibility is more limited. Be sure slow moving vehicle emblems are mounted on the rear of vehicles to alert motorists.
