Juvenile Trial Scheduled For Shooting Case

The teenager charged in Bond County Circuit Court in the shooting death of Javarey Williams, age 16, of Royal Lake, was back in court last week.

The 17-year-old defendant faces three felony charges.

He has been detained at the Madison County Detention Home in Edwardsville. In court last Thursday, Judge Christopher Bauer ordered the teen continue to be held in the detention home.

A juvenile trial in the case is scheduled for June 5 in Bond County Circuit Court.

The incident occurred in a Royal Lake residence on April 26 and Williams died three day later.

The defendant is charged with involuntary manslaughter, concealment of a homicidal death, and obstructing justice.

The state alleges he acted in a reckless manner, performing an act that led to the discharge of a firearm, in the presence of Williams, causing Williams to be shot and, thereby causing his death.

It is also alleged the defendant, knowing Williams had died, concealed the death by falsely reporting the victim shot himself with the handgun. The obstruction charge alleges the defendant knowingly planted false evidence by placing the handgun next to Williams’ body to make it appear the victim shot himself.
