The Kaskaskia College Athletic Department announced tonight that Garrett Belcher of Patoka and Hannah Hoffmann of Carlyle were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Year.

Sophomore Garrett Belcher has been a member of the KC Blue Devils basketball team for two years and also played baseball his freshman year. He has a cumulative GPA of 3.28 and last year was given the Blue Devil Award for his efforts on the court. He was named team captain his sophomore year and finished fourth in scoring this year averaging 9 points per game. He was also second in rebounding with 6 per game. He will be continuing his basketball and academic career at the next level.

According to KC Coach Brian Hancock, “Garrett is a very motivated student-athlete both in the classroom and on the basketball court. He was selected as a team captain this season and brought leadership as well as good energy and enthusiasm to practices and games throughout the season. He made good strides between his freshman and sophomore seasons statistically. This season Garrett was consistently put in the hardest positions defensively as he was asked to guard players 3-4 inches taller and 30-80 pounds heavier and never said a word over the course of the season.”

Sophomore Hannah Hoffmann was a two-sport athlete during her career at Kaskaskia playing both volleyball and softball. She will be graduating with a 3.903 GPA. She has been a leader in academics and athletics. She is a member of PTK (2019 All Illinois Academic Team) and has been a great ambassador of the College. Hannah received All Conference Team, Offense and Defense Awards for softball and Academic All American 2nd Team as a freshman. Hannah will continue her academic and athletic (softball) career at Greenville University in the fall on an athletic scholarship.

According to volleyball coach and athletic director, Kim Rahar, “Hannah is everything a coach looks for in a student athlete. Involved with Kaskaskia College Athletics and other community events, as she is always ready to lend a hand wherever needed. She is a positive leader and great teammate that is willing to go above and beyond.”
