Lady Comets Headed To Semifinals

A victory Monday for the softball Greenville Lady Comets has put them into the semifinals of the Carlyle Class 2A Regional.

In a game moved to Greenville, the GHS girls edged Belleville Althoff 6-5 in the opening game of the regional.

With the score tied 4-4 in the sixth inning, the Lady Comets scored the go-ahead run and ended up recording what would be the winning run on an RBI double by Katelyn Thomason.

The winners scored twice in the third to make it 2-2 and took the lead with two tallies in the fourth.

Offensively, Kortney Unterbrink had three hits, Katie Hutchinson and Claire Mueller, two each; and Thomason, Camille Edwards, and Lily and Sophia Warchol, one hit each.

Edwards drove in two runs. Hutchinson also had an RBI and she earned the pitching win, coming in to relieve during the second inning.

The Lady Comets face Mater Dei in a regional semifinal game today (Tuesday) at 4:30 p.m. in Carlyle. The second semifinal game will be Carlyle against Wesclin.
