The Mulberry Grove Board of Education met Monday. In the financial report, Superintendent Steve Phillips said fund balances look good and financially, the district is in better shape than this time last year. General state aid continues to arrive on time and the district has received three of four categorical state aid payments for transportation and special education.

Phillips said maintenance work and improvements on the high school gym bleachers was completed before graduation and several people said how much they liked the hand rails and half steps. The improvements make the bleachers much safer more accessible.

The board approved purchase of a new high school gym floor cover. A cover is available from a company from California that makes covers for colleges and universities and then offers covers to high schools at a greatly reduced price, made of left over pieces. The cover will cost a little more than $2,000.00, approximately 20% of full price.

Board members approved proposed remodeling work in the modular classrooms. Brian Cook was hired to do the work for $875.00.

Following a closed session, the board appointed Keith Steiner to an unfilled school board position.

The board accepted resignations of Heidi Olson – junior high language arts and math teacher and Scott Voyles – junior high head baseball coach. Board members hired: Lyndsey Beckham – summer school teacher, Chris Johnson – assistant high school basketball coach, Ian Wolf – junior high social studies and junior high head basketball coach, Charity Huwe – junior high language arts, math, and assistant high school and junior high softball coach, and Heidi Tarasuik – PE teacher and high school volleyball head coach.
