Raymond Police Chief Killed In Double Fatality Accident


Illinois State Police (ISP) District 18 troopers responded to a fatal crash on Illinois Route 127 Thursday morning, less than a mile south of N 21st Ave. in Montgomery County.

At approximately 8:09 A.M. Thursday, 23 year old Samantha Lapradd, of Hillsboro, was traveling northbound in a Chevy Equinox, approaching a southbound Ford Mustang, driven by 39 year old Valerie Sheldon, of Hillsboro. According to state police, Lapradd’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck Sheldon’s Mustang head-on.

Both drivers were pronounced deceased on the scene by the Montgomery County Coroner.

Sheldon is the Chief of Police in the Village of Raymond. She was not on duty at the time of the crash.

The Raymond-Harvel Fire Department, Raymond/Harvel Ambulance, Hillsboro Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department assisted on scene.

The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.
