Carlyle Lake Weekend Activities

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is preparing for a fun and safe weekend celebrating Independence Day at Carlyle Lake. Family oriented activities will be taking place throughout the weekend.

The highlight of the weekend will be the Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday, 29 June. Fireworks will be shot off from Lakeview Access Area. Lakeview is located at the east end of the Carlyle Lake Main Dam. Viewing of the fireworks can best be seen from the west side of the top of the Carlyle Lake Main Dam, Dam West Day Use Area, McNair Beach, Dam East South Shore (Point 18), or from the water.

The Beach Blast kicks off with a sandcastle building contest, beach games, and a volleyball tournament. Registration for the sandcastle building contest begins at 2:00 p.m. at the water safety tent located on the south end of Dam West Beach. Sandcastle contest participants may begin building as soon as they are registered. Beach games and the volleyball tournament will also start at 2:00 p.m. You won’t want to miss your chance at winning prizes playing these fun and educational games. All activities are free of charge and open to the public.

The Carlyle Lake Dam Jam can be heard from Picnic Shelter 2 in the Dam West Day Use Area beginning at 12:30 p.m. Bands scheduled to perform include:

5:00 p.m. Something to Mow
6:30 p.m. Stumpwater Shine
8:00 p.m. Double Shot

The Carlyle Sailing Association will host a July 4th Celebration on Saturday, 29 June from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Carlyle Sailing Association OB Room. All are invited to the event which will include chicken and ice cream provided by the club. Reservations are required. To make reservations call 618-337-1304. The day wraps up with fireworks shot off from Lakeview Access Area. Lakeview is located at the east end of the Carlyle Lake Main Dam. Lakeview Access and Chipmunk Nature Trail will be closed to the public during this time. The Dam East Spillway Recreation Area will be open for parking/viewing of the fireworks. Once the fireworks begin, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the Dam East Spillway Recreation Area due to safety concerns. Viewing of the fireworks can best be seen from the west side of the top of the Carlyle Lake Main Dam, Dam West Day Use Area, McNair Beach, Dam East South Shore (Point 18), or from the water.

The Carlyle Lake Fireworks Spectacular is hosted by the Carlyle Lake Fireworks Committee and the City of Carlyle. This event is made possible by funds raised by the Haunted Trail, donations from local corporate sponsors, and donations collected the evening of the fireworks. Members of the committee will be stationed at the entrances to the Dam West and Dam East Recreation Areas to collect donations.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will present interactive educational programs on Friday evening and beach programs on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

2:30 p.m. Harbor Light Bay Beach – Water Safety
2:30 p.m. McNair Beach – Water Safety
3:00 p.m. Keyesport Beach – Water Safety
3:00 p.m. Coles Creek Beach – Water Safety

Dam West, Coles Creek, and Boulder Campgrounds are open with sites available on a first-come-first-serve basis and also through reservation by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or online at www.recreation.gov. McNair and Dam East Campgrounds are open on a first-come-first-serve basis. Eldon Hazlet State Park is also open and has sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis or online at www.reserveamerica.com

The Carlyle Lake Visitor Center is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Visitor Center has exhibits and brochures to help plan your stay at Carlyle Lake.

Life jacket loaner stations are available at Keyesport, Dam West, McNair, and Coles Creek beaches and boat ramps. Visitors are encouraged to borrow a life jacket from a station to use while recreating and to return the life jacket to a station once done.
