County Fire Departments Participate In Training

Volunteer fire departments in Bond County work together, when needed, at local emergencies.

They also train together. Smithboro Fire Chief Bryant Briggs said the most recent instance was May 28th when firefighters gathered to practice the rescuing of victims in a mock vehicle accident.

The training was hosted by the Smithboro Fire District with assistance from the Greenville Fire District, Bond County Ambulance Service and HSHS Holy Family Hospital.

Attending were fire and EMS personnel from the Smithboro, Greenville, Pocahontas-Old Ripley and Shoal Creek districts.

Chief Briggs reported a first responder class was held in March and April. Eleven new first responders were certified, six from the Smithboro District, three from the Keyesport District and two from the Mulberry Grove District.
