Illinois State Police responded to investigate a fatal crash and a secondary crash on southbound I-55 in Montgomery County early Sunday morning.
The accident occurred Sunday at 12:32 AM in the southbound lanes of I-55, near mile post 73, just north of Farmersville.
According to police, a Silver Chevrolet was traveling northbound I-55 in the southbound lanes and a silver Nissan was traveling southbound in the southbound lanes. The Chevrolet hit the Nissan head-on. The silver Nissan spun side swiping, a Freightliner and another passenger vehicle.
All vehicles from that crash came to a stop. The silver Nissan was sitting in the middle of I-55 in the south bound lanes when a Megabus, loaded with 54 passengers, hit the silver Nissan.
The drivers of the silver Chevrolet and Silver Nissan – 36 year old Dannean Royston, of St. Louis, and 54 year old Cheryl True, of Maryville, IL – were pronounced deceased on scene by the Montgomery County Coroner.
The driver of the Megabus was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Five passengers of the Megabus were transported with minor injuries.
The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation and no further information is available at this time.
