GU Alum Takes Top Spot In STL Sound Competition

Last week, four Greenville University students and/or alumni of Greenville University claimed three of the 11 spots in the St. Louis Sound Competition. That contest was held Wednesday at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis.

Current GU students Mikayla Hoult and Noah Schlosser, and GU grads Austin Simmons and Clayton Jones participated in the American-Idol-style competition.

Jones, a member of the GU Class of 2013 claimed the top spot Wednesday with his performance of his original song “Ringleader.”

As winner, Jones receives a trip to Nashville, Tennessee to record a demo and meet music industry professionals. He will also perform at The Sheldon.

Formerly lead singer of the group The Madison Letter, which got its start at G.U., Clayton relaunched as a solo artist in 2017 and released the 12-song album Beyond the Fences. He has performed across the U.S. as well as in the UK, South Africa and Tanzania.
