A single vehicle accident claimed the life of a 20 year old Alton man early Sunday morning. According to the Illinois State Police a Jeep driven by an unidentified 17 year old female from East Alton was traveling northbound on Route 159 near the intersection with 140 when the vehicle left the road way to the right and overcorrected back to the left. The Jeep crossed both lines of traffic and left the roadway again, striking a ditch and overturning.
20 year old Deon Miller was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison County Coroner. One other passenger was transported by helicopter with serious injuries. The driver and a 4th passenger were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident happened at 2:25AM on Sunday and remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
