Unit Two Retirees Honored

A program was held Friday morning to honor those retiring in the Bond County Community Unit 2 school district.

Administrators and department heads spoke briefly about the 10 employees.

They included Mark Eyman, a bus driver, who began with the district in 2007, Kay Walker, head cook at the Pocahontas School who was there 21 years, and Jerry File, who served 30 years as a bus driver at Pocahontas.

Retiring at Greenville Elementary School was Jane Wilhite, who spent 34 years at Sorento and GES as a teacher, Mary Pruemer, an aide for 21 years at Sorento and Greenville, and Jan Watts, who has a total of 52 years in education, the last 11 as a substitute teacher and aide in Unit 2.

Retiring at the Greenville Junior High were Cindy Adkins, a former full-time teacher, who for the past five years has assisted part-time, and Karen Fletcher, who was an aide 10 years at Greenville Elementary and another 10 years at the junior high.

At the high school, Sue Stone has retired as an English teacher after 29 years in education, the past 25 in Unit 2. High School Principal Wendy Porter is retiring after 37 years in education. She came to Unit 2 14 years ago as the assistant principal and has been principal since 2010.
