Illinois State Police troopers responded to investigate a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Interstate 55 southbound, milepost 27 in Madison County, today at 9:13 AM. Preliminary reports indicate the pedestrian, 35 year old Danny G. Kline of Carlinville, parked his vehicle on the right shoulder of I- 55 southbound and was standing in front of it.
A Freightliner truck approached and the Kline reportedly walked into the roadway for an unknown reason. The Freightliner swerved to the left in an attempted to avoid striking him. Police say Kline struck the passenger’s side door of the Freightliner. Kline was airlifted to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the truck, 57 year old Bradley R. Emerson, of St. Louis, was not injured.
The investigation is still ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
