Hummingbird Fest Draws A Crowd

The seventh annual Hummingbird Festival was Saturday at the orchard of Phil and Kay Stoecklin in the north part of Bond County.

Vernon Kleen, a licensed hummingbird bander, was once again at the event.

Kay Stoecklin was pleased with the attendance on what was a hot, summer day. She said on hot days the usual attendance is around 350, but she believes they exceeded that on Saturday. She said some came from as far away as Peoria.

Kay said many of those visiting the festival are thrilled to see the hummingbirds while others are there to actually adopt a banded hummingbird and release it.
