Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia has a new operator.

The Fayette County Hospital District has selected Sarah Bush Lincoln of Mattoon to oversee its operations. Fayette County owns the hospital, but does not manage its operations.

Sarah Bush Lincoln has purchased Heartland Health Systems, the corporation that has been operating the Fayette County Hospital and Fayette County Long Term Care. The sale became final July 1.

All employees have retained their jobs. There are about 250 full-time equivalent employees.

Fayette County Hospital CEO Greg Starnes said the move was prompted by the retirements of individual stockholder owners with Heartland, who live out of state.

Starnes added the hospital now has a larger operator in Sarah Bush Lincoln and he believes there will be more opportunities for the Vandalia facility.

Fayette County Hospital is a critical access hospital licensed for 25 beds, and there is also an 85-bed long term care facility.
