One Handed Recruit Joins Panthers Basketball Team

Greenville University Men’s Basketball Coach George Barber has received attention for his team’s fast-paced style of playing, leading to the Panthers being the highest scoring team in college basketball.

He is now giving a one-handed recruit from Georgia the chance to play at the NCAA Division III school.

Zach Nabers has signed to play basketball at Greenville University this season.

Coach Barber, whose doctoral degree is in adaptive physical education, said Zach comes from Georgia and is part of an athletic family. His brother plays football for Florida State. Barber said Zach lost his right hand in a boating accident when he was 12.

Former Greenville University Baseball Pitcher Sam Kuhnert, who also has just one hand, asked Barber to take a look at Nabers. Kuhnert runs a camp called NubAbility for those with a limb difference. That led to Barber reaching out.

The said Nabers was excited about the opportunity to play for Greenville. Barber said Nabers went through the application process and he and his mother visited GU and loved it.
