Sorento Woman Pleads Not Guilty In Murder/Obstruction Case

A rural Sorento woman, charged with alleged murder in the June 11 shooting death of Richard R. Blake, was in Bond County Circuit Court last week.

Wendy E. Denzler, age 41, waived her right to a preliminary hearing and pled not guilty to five counts of first degree murder, a count of second degree murder and obstructing justice.

A trial by jury was demanded, and a negotiated plea conference has been scheduled for September 11 in court.

The shooting occurred at a residence in the 12-hundred block of Old Ripley Road near Sorento. Police told WGEL Denzler and Blake, age 70, were girlfriend and boyfriend.

The state alleges Denzler shot Blake in the head with a handgun. The obstruction charge alleges the defendant, with the intent to prevent her apprehension, furnished false information to a Bond County sergeant that Blake had committed suicide.

Denzler is being held in the Bond County jail on $500,000 cash bond.
