Bond Madison Water Alert

Sandy Kuhn, operator-manager for the Bond Madison Water Company advises customers to be aware of a temporary change in disinfectant used in the water.

Illinois American Water, supplier for Bond Madison, will be temporarily adding chlorine only. Kuhn reported this is always done this time of the year.

She said Bond Madison Water Company will flush the distribution system using this type of disinfectant. This begins August 27 and the company will resume disinfecting with chloramines in about four to five weeks.

Kuhn said flushing with only chlorine removes and prevents chemical build up in the water lines. There is no need to boil the water.

Chlorine odor is more noticeable with this type of disinfectant, but it will dissipate if water drawn from the tap is allowed to sit in the refrigerator for a few hours.

Kuhn said dialysis patients and renal care facilities should be aware of this change and adjust their health care practices accordingly.
