Comets Football Season Opens Friday

The high school football season begins Friday night and the Greenville Comets will be at home against Litchfield.

The Comets reached the Elite 8 in the Class 3A playoffs last season and finished with an 8-4 record.

Todd Hutchinson is beginning his 12th season as head coach, and his 27th season of being a coach in the football program.

Friday night’s opening kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the WGEL pre-game show will start about 6:40.

Area games Friday night include Wood River at Breese Central, Effingham at Mater Dei, Mt. Zion at Highland, Nashville at Carlyle, Dupo at Wesclin, Mattoon at Triad, Carlinville at Roxana, Vandalia at Gillespie, Southwestern Piasa at Hillsboro and Pana at Staunton.
